Yamahas historie begynte da grunnleggeren, Torakusu Yamaha, reparerte et ødelagt sivorgan i 1887. Kort tid etter fullførte han det første sivorganet.
Mer enn 130 år etter grunnleggelsen i 1887 definerte Yamaha-filosofien som det filosofiske rammeverket som ligger til grunn for virksomhetsledelsen i Yamaha-gruppen.
