Optimum surround sound home theater reproduction places heavy demands on the center channel speaker, which in many respects is the main speaker in the system and often handles 50% or more of the program material. It’s no place to compromise and settle for second best. All Definitive CS series center channel models are designed with the same rigid standards and high performance goals as main left and right front speakers and feature wide frequency response and extended dynamic range with extraordinary detail and articulation.
Bass Radiator Technology Makes a Dramatic Audible Difference
Most audio experts agree that the ideal surround speaker system would have 5 identical truly full range speakers at every position. But most rooms and setups can’t accommodate 5 identical large speakers. So we engineered the next best thing – a center speaker with robust bass response that fits on a shelf.The CS-8040HD features two patented high-definition Balanced Double Surround System (BDSS) 4-1/2 inch drivers that are pressure-coupled to a 5 x 10 inch racetrack-shaped planar Low-Bass Radiator. The result is bass extension unheard of in a center speaker of this size and price. With the CS-8040HD you will fully realize the performance potential of the center channel program material as the movie director intended it to be heard.
The CS-8040HD’s bass radiator gives you full, rich center channel sound Its upward-firing bass radiator requires only 1″ (25mm) of clearance, so it works perfectly whether you mount it in free-air or put it in a cabinet.

Definitive Technology’s A60 Elevation Module
Definitive Technology has created the A60 Elevation Module as a dedicated “height speaker.” The A60 sits atop the Definitive Technology BP-8060ST and fires sound upwards, which is then reflected off the ceiling and back down to the listener.
A simple design brilliantly executed.
The A60 performs smoothly throughout its midrange and bass, implementing psychoacoustic-based filtering in the high frequencies to enhance the perception of height. The slope of the speaker baffle aims the speaker to bounce sound off the ceiling and arrive at the listener from above. Sound arriving directly from the speaker is reduced by controlling the driver’s dispersion pattern and damping what sound remains using specially selected foam on the baffle.

The SR-8040HD is built to the same high performance standards as Definitive’s main left and right front speakers and includes features like high-definition second generation patented BDSS bass/midrange drivers with butyl rubber surrounds, wide-dispersion pure aluminum dome tweeters, complex crossover networks and rock-solid cabinet construction. It can be mounted to a wall with the integrated keyhole plate or it can be placed atop a shelf or after-market stand. However you use the SR-8040BP you’ll enjoy superior surround sound realism.
The Bipolar Advantage
Definitive’s SR-8040HD is a bipolar system containing two complete full-range speaker systems, one on each side of the cabinet. Bipolar radiation spreads the surround signals evenly throughout your room for a more enveloping sense of you-are-there realism than could be achieved with conventional forward-firing speakers.The SR-8040HD is a full-range, extremely linear, low-distortion system which is timbre-matched to blend perfectly with all Definitive BP series speakers as well as other high-quality speaker systems.
